Chicago's no-kill advocacy group offers free spaying or neutering to families on public assistance (Medicaid, Food Stamps/Link, WIC, SSD, Major VA, disability or Section 8) as well as to anyone who lives in certain Zip codes (60608, 60609, 60617, 60619, 60620, 60621, 60628, 60629, 60636, 60639, 60643, 60651). For all others, spaying or neutering is $50, including the five-in-one DHPP+C vaccine as needed. Add in an AVID microchip for only $25 (they cost $40 for dogs not getting surgery).
If you are on public assistance and your dog is neutered or spayed, vaccinations here cost just $12 for (1-year) rabies or the five-in-one DHPP+C. For all others whose dogs are already "fixed," vaccinations are $18 each. (Note: If your dog is "intact," shots here are $45 apiece, higher than what many vets charge). Heartworm tests are $25 (versus $50 at many vet's offices).
Not everything here is a bargain. For example, while PAWS offers a six-month supply of Frontline Plus flea and tick prevention for $60 to $72 (depending on the size of your dog), urbanhound has found better deals online.
Hours: The clinic is open Tuesday through Thursday, plus Sunday, from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Appointments are required.
