mercury skyline cruiseline's canine cruise
It's a new and different experience that you can share with your dog. Plus, it's about 10 degrees cooler on the water.
The cruise starts in the heart of downtown on the riverbank at the southeast corner of the Michigan Avenue Bridge at Michigan Ave. and Wacker Dr.
Unless you live within walking distance or your dog is small enough to be smuggled on the bus or the El, you'll have to drive. Parking is a hassle. There are several lots nearby (including the Hyatt Regency Chicago), but there are no special rates for cruise passengers.
A fresh breeze on a hot day. Novel sights, smells, and sounds.
A chance to see the city from a different angle. The 90-minute cruise travels down the Chicago River to the Sears Tower and back, then makes a jaunt along the lakeshore. Guides provide commentary on the city's history and architecture plus pointers on nearby dog parks and other canine-related attractions.
Medium and large dogs get their own seats, while smaller dogs are encouraged to get comfortable on their guardians' laps. Drinking water and a newspaper-lined restroom are provided.
Snacks and drinks for you and the dog, as there are no items for sale on board. Sunscreen for humans is also recommended.
Cruises embark on Sundays at 10 A.M. from July 9th to September 24th. There are generally 30 to 40 dogs on board, so your hound must be well-behaved, leashed at all times, and definitely not in heat.
Dogs are $5, adults are $18, children over three are $8 (kids three and under are free). Tickets go on sale at 8:30 A.M. (The line can start forming as much as an hour earlier). Advance reservations are not accepted.
