comments
About a 40-minute drive west of downtown, this 500-acre preserve is free (aside from the cost of a dog permit, see below), has lots of parking, and has an exercise area for off-leash dogs. The downside is that it is not fenced, but improvements—including expanding the parking lot and fencing in the area—are planned for the summer of 2006. (The area will be temporarily closed while under construction, so check that it's open before you go.) In all DuPage Forest Preserves, an annual dog permit is required. Cost is $35 for residents, $150 for non-residents. An application can be downloaded here and submitted via fax, mail, or in person.
