Re:Re:Forget Cesar---What's Your Favorite Dog Book? The best book ever written about dogs and dog behavior is NATURAL DOG TRAINING by Kevin Behan, who trained police dogs for over 20 years and is now well-known for his ability to rehabilitate dogs that no one else will work with.

Re:Re:Forget Cesar---What's Your Favorite Dog Book? Hi, I agree Ian Dunbars book is great. My trainer suggested it and it is very useful. I actually took a few puppy classes with Andrea Arden (I wasn't thrilled). I laughed during the entire first class -Everything the trainers said was literally word for word right out of Ian's book.
Re:Forget Cesar---What's Your Favorite Dog Book? Eeeek - only one? I love Jean Donaldson's _The Culture Clash_ - though it's not a practical how-to book, it's full of great canine behavior info. If you are only going to buy one book, make it this one.

another older book I loved was "Beyond Basic" - Diane Baumann

Re:Re:Re:Forget Cesar---What's Your Favorite Dog Book? Yes, my all time favorite dog training book is the kilcommons one as well. I am glad he is coming out with a new edition soon too. I give this book to everyone with a new puppy or who may be experiencing some issues with their dog. Kilcommons trained with Barbara Woodhouse and he has years and years of practical experience. His methods are humane and practical and THEY WORK. His book is very accessible.
I recently got a copy of Hound Health and I was impressed with it too.
A few really great books that I recommend to all of my clients are:
The Power of Positive Dog Training by Pat Miller
The Other End of the Leash by Patricia B. McConnell, Ph.D.
Parenting your Dog by Trish King
Feeling Outnumbered? by Karen B. London, Ph.D. and Patricia B. McConnell, Ph.D
Canine Body Language - A Photographic Guide by Brenda Aloff
Dogs Bite: But Balloons and Slippers are More Dangerous by Janis Bradley
The Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson
Successful Dog Adoption by Sue Sternberg
Publication:The Whole Dog Journal

Re:Forget Cesar---What's Your Favorite Dog Book? My all-time FAVORITE dog book is If A Dog’s Prayers Were Answered Bones Would Rain from the Sky: Deepening Our Relationships With Dogs by Suzanne Clothier
I often recommend How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live With by Clarice Rutherford and David H. Neil for first time dog owners and also recently enjoyed Marley & Me.

Re:Forget Cesar---What's Your Favorite Dog Book? An adorable book - that validates those of us that love our dogs just a little bit too much is:
What Wendell Wants: or How to Tell You're Obsessed with Your Dog by Jenny Lee
It's an adorable memoir of a woman that gets a dog and gets sucked in to all that loving your pet entails.

Re:Forget Cesar---What's Your Favorite Dog Book? ok - so these aren't "how to" books, but are great books that celebrate our relationships with our pooches:
Pam Houston's "Cowboys Are My Weakness" - a collection of short stories in which our "heroine du jour" experiences love (or lack there of) with emotionally unavailable men, but ususally has the benefit of the love and loyalty of a good dog. A completely lyrical read.
"Dog is My Co-Pilot" from the Editors of BARK Magazine. Again, a collection of short stories, but all are about how dogs fit into their humans' lives.
Fiction: This is an obscure one by Jack London but one of the best dog stories written and one for all you Terrier lovers: Jerry of the Islands: A True Dog Story
