Forum Title: Getting dog used to Sherpa Bags

Description: I have a 23 lb terrier mix and she gets sick every time I place her in her sherpa bag. While we travel by car a lot of times (and she has gotten car sick) it's not always an option. Does anybody have suggestions on how to get her acclimated to her carrier?

Re:Getting dog used to Sherpa Bags
when we first got our bag, our dog did NOT want to get inside. when we finally got him in there we gave him treat after treat after treat. seriously, we must have given him like 20 treats in a row (we used crunchy ones that took him longer to chew). when we stopped it had been like 5-10 minutes, and he remained sitting in the bag, calmly now, not frantic as he was at first, and looked at us as if to say, "ok, i'll stay here, keep the treats coming." now he'll go into his bag on his own and sit and wait for a treat. you might want to try something like that? hopefully it helps.

Re:Getting dog used to Sherpa Bags
similar situation, getting out dog used to his crate...

we would leave it in the apartment and keep his favorite toy in there. we would randomly put a treat in the very back so if he ever wandered in there on his own, he would come to know it as a neat little place where he finds treats. we also did several training sessions a day with him. we would couple a treat with a vocal command, tossing it into the back so he would go all the way in. once he was in we started closing the door and keeping him in there for longer and longer amounts of time, starting with just a few min.
