I'd recommend starting there and also trying to find frenchie message boards and lurk for awhile to see what is being said abt. breeders and then start asking questions.

Thanks for the website. I'm thinking of getting a Bulldog and this site seems like a good starting point. I'm just in the research phase, but it can get overwhelming.

Re:Looking for reputable French Bulldog Breeders
We bought our frenchie from Bluegrass Kennels in Berea, KY. They have beautiful dogs and are really great. Our frenchie was socialized so well - she loves everyone. She was already pretty wee wee pad trained and they used her name when talking to her. She came to us a bit unsteady for the first 24 hours (shock of being on the plane and in a new environment) but after that she was running the household!

Re:Re:Looking for reputable French Bulldog Breeders
I've had a Frenchie for over 15 years now. At one point, I lived with several of them. They are lovely little dogs. However, I was a little frightened by how popular they became about seven or eight years ago. I understand why so many people fell in love with them, but it is always tough on a breed when they become a fad. Over the past five or six years, there has been such a rise in badly bred Frenchies with all kinds of health issues. So many puppies being sold at the pet shops and so many disreputable breeders popping up everywhere.

Re:Re:Re:Looking for reputable French Bulldog Breeders
Be suspicious of anyone who always has puppies available. The females should not be bred more than three times. If someone seems to bred more for trendy colors or size, that is another danger signal. If they say, "Oh, we never show our dogs." well that is not such a great sign. If you are breeding to bred the best example of the dog possible, then why aren't you out there showing? Even a bit?
If a breeder claims to bred healthy dogs, but they do NO HEALTH testing, then you might be asking for trouble.
If they show lots and lots of puppies for sale all of the time on their website, well that is not good. Do they belong to any of the breed groups? I cannot tell you how many sad stories I have heard from people who have purchased Frenchie pups from the wrong people and both the dog and the owner paid the price in pain, suffering, and enormous vet bills. Please proceed with caution. Frenchies are great. Wait to get the right one.

Also, I wonder about some of these "breeders" who keep "their stock" in kennels. Frenchies are not kennel creatures. They are sensitive little cuddly couch potatoes. Yeah, some of them can be very athletic and active at times, but they love to hang out inside too. They are house dogs. Not sporting dogs. Not hunting dogs. Not racing dogs.
